  • Bi-metal Fusing

    Bi-metal fusing – layering contrasting metals (brass, sterling silver, or copper) by heating with an open flame to adhere them to a base piece of metal (usually copper).

  • Embossing

    Embossing – various patterns applied by running metal blanks through a rolling mill on a steel pattern plate or embossing folder.

  • Enameling

    Enameling – high temperature, kiln-fired, triple-layered, powdered glass melted on copper to a glossy finish. Powders are opaque or transparent. Cane glass wafer slices melted into the toplayer resemble flowers.

  • Etching

    Etching – process of removing metal around an image to make it 3-dimensional.

  • Flame Painting (Heat Patina)

    Heat patina (aka flame painting) – use of torch flame/fire applied strategically to copper to produce vibrant colors.

  • Patinas

    Patinas – various applications used to produce different finishes, including oxidizing, wax and liquid color and household chemicals to speed up natural oxidization.

  • Prong Setting

    Prong setting – the use of wire to hold a stone for a minimalistic setting that showcases the stone.

  • Riveting

    Riveting – use of rivets to cold connect layers of metal or metal to other mediums such as leather. Can be useful or decorative.

  • Soldering

    Soldering – the art of seamlessly joining metal with pinpoint flame application.

  • Texturing

    Texturing – the application of various textures using hammers, engraving tools, metal stamps, files, drill bits, and sanding
    discs/blocks, etc.
